Join the San Diego Surfing Hall of Fame in celebrating the legacy of legendary oceanographer and visionary, Walter Munk. This annual celebration honors Walter’s 80-year legacy of daring exploration and discovery through scientific research, education, and ocean conservation.
This year’s event is a call to action, aimed at raising awareness of the fragility of our oceans and showcasing the rich heritage of the Kumeyaay culture. It’s a day to remember Walter’s words, “Don’t be afraid to get involved,” by engaging in the science and spirit of ocean conservation.
The Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans, established by Walter and his wife Mary in 2017, continues his legacy by fostering partnerships with leading researchers around the world. From protecting the vulnerable Munkiana species of ray in Baja California to conducting vital climate change research in Austria, the foundation is a beacon for future generations of scientists and explorers.
Join us as we continue the work Walter and Mary started, with a renewed focus on engaging, exciting, and impactful ocean science initiatives.
