My First Night at the San Diego Surfing Hall of Fame: A Night to Remember

San Diego Surfing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Presentation

The San Diego Boat and Ski Club on the banks of Rose Creek provided the perfect backdrop for the evening’s induction ceremony. The atmosphere was electric, and the full bar certainly added to the festive mood!

As a volunteer, I got to work alongside a roadie from Pearl Jam! He asked me if I had a knife to cut some rope, and while I didn’t have one on me, I offered to grab mine from my car. This humble task made me feel like a part of the crew, contributing to the success of the event. It was a surreal moment.

Later, when surfing legend Tom Curren took the stage to induct his father, Pat Curren, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride. Up there, holding the stage canopy together, were the very knots I had tied!

Hank Warner, as always, was an exceptional presenter. His passion for surfing and the Hall of Fame was infectious.

This experience was truly unforgettable. It was more than just volunteering; it was an immersion into the heart of San Diego’s surf culture. I left that night feeling inspired and deeply connected to the legacy of surfing in this incredible city.
